Catalyst: Markus Roos - SDG 4 und 9

Markus Roos from Berne considers education as an important lever for social change in Switzerland: "We see that the school system and education in general often does not meet the current and future requirements of society. Too many children and young people fall into an anxiety or even consumerist attitude. Personal development and the growing importance of collaboration are not sufficiently taken into account." The 56-year-old wants to rethink education. Together with partners he has founded “

THES (TauschHaus EduSpace) im Effinger” in Berne, a space where committed people meet, question education paradigms, experiment with ideas and break new ground. In the Catalyst Lab 2019/20, Markus has been able to expand his network decisively and extend his field of activity beyond the cantonal borders: "The Catalyst Lab has brought me together with highly comitted and exciting people. This strengthened my overall view of the topic and my empowerment. Working on the topic of education together with Nils Landolt as a partner from the Catalyst Lab gives me additional energy for effective activities". Markus and Nils have jointly opened a second THES location in Glarus. The initiative schulwandel.ch was also created during the Catalyst Lab. And the future laboratory has not only opened doors and demonstrated new possibilities, but has also strengthened Markus' methodological skills: "The Theory U as well as "Art of Hosting" give me more confidence in complex topics and discussions. And I have developed an even better awareness of the overall interrelation in the field of sustainability".
