Catalyst Mario Stankovic - SDG 16 & 17

A sustainable society with integrity. This is what Mario Stankovic dreams of. The religious educator has been committed for years to innovative ways of living together in the Lucerne region and in Central Switzerland. Within the non-profit association “Luzern im Wandel - Transition Luzern”, he brings people, organisations and companies together who share the desire for an environmentally compatible lifestyle, self-sufficiency, healthy finances and a supportive community. The network currently connects 30 organisations, projects and companies from Lucerne and the surrounding area. During the Catalyst Lab, Mario has focused on the question of how to create effective projects and spaces that can build bridges to other social circles and sectors. "The Catalyst Lab has strengthened my commitment and at the same time given me new impulses. Above all, dealing with complex systems was an important learning experience for me. There are no universal formulas or mechanisms that can be applied everywhere and at all times. But there are helpful tools and methods. And you need time. An effective network, supportive relationships and trust is key to success for change at system level. It takes time to build that." Based on the skills he acquired in the Catalyst Lab, Mario and his network are organizing a Social Innovation Lab in the Lucerne region: "We are in the middle of preparations. Various stakeholder meetings have already been held. Now we are bringing the different organisations and people together in a Social Innovation Lab to learn and implement a new participatory and collaborative approach.” Mario sees himself above all as an initiator and motivator. "I want to help shape a citizen-centered government, participatory politics and an economy for the common good and the environment."
